Free Crochet Pattern: Mixed Berries Anyway Cowl

Joanita Theron of Creative Crochet Workshop has recently made this gorgeous scarf pattern available in part of a year long event of two scarves a month all year long. Amy of The Stitchin Mommy and Rhondda of Oombawka Design are participating as well. What fun!

Joanita’s scarf is just extraordinary. It’s a super simple little scarf that you can throw around your neck to add some extra color. It’s small and easy, making it perfect for a quick little gift. But, honestly, it’s really that yarn choice that truly shines here.

Until I can somehow get my hands on yarn made in South Africa, I think I may have to try this with some self-striping yarn. The “cakes” yarn that is so popular probably wouldn’t give me the same effect because I would probably use only one color. I would need some shorter striping color changes. I wonder whether I could use Lion Brand Shawl in a Ball? I know Red Heart Unforgettable will work. I just need to stay away from those long, long color changes on this one, unless I want a solid color scarf (not that there’s anything wrong with that!)
