Free Crochet Pattern: Plaid Christmas Blanket

Oh, this is fun! This is one of those projects that looks a lot more difficult than it is. You will love it!

You are going to start your project with a mesh background. This really couldn’t be easier. You simply “double crochet, chain 1, skip 1” for the entire afghan. Even without the plaid part, you end up with a pretty blanket.

Now, you’re simply going to make chains and weave them in and out in the spaces. I hear you saying, “But, it’s so pretty! It can’t possibly be that easy!” But, IT IS! It really is that easy. It’s basically the same general motions used to make those woven potholders that are a popular choice for first-time children projects.

And, here’s something else. You’ve got the holiday season coming up. You may have little ones who want desperately to help with gifts. This. Is. Perfect.

Your little ones will be so excited when they realize that they actually get to help make the gifts. They can make the chains and they can help with weaving them in and out of the mesh. Just imagine how thrilled they will be when those gifts are opened. And, if you’ve got children with varying degrees of skill level, one of them may be able to crochet the mesh while the other makes the chains. So much fun!
