Today’s crochet beauty is from Johanna Lindahl of Mijo Crochet. Johanna is from Sweden and has provided the pattern in both Swedish and English. Yay!
This pattern will start with a a magic circle at the lower point and increase out. Feel free to use a chain circle, if you prefer. The pattern is written in a 14-row repeat, so it’s extensive, but is intuitive enough that it won’t be too challenging. Because the pattern is written from the center point, up and out, you can use any yarn weight you like, with the crochet hook size of your choice.
For the yarn, Johanna has used a gorgeous self-striping cotton/acrylic blend in light fingering weight. Most of the projects on Ravelry use self-striping yarn as well. You can see the yarn HERE. Since I’m not in Sweden, I immediately thought of Schachenmayr Tahiti which I used in this Malibu Wrap HERE. It is light fingering and has beautiful long color striping. Just be careful because the newer colors (7624/Carnival, 7616/Breeze, 7642/Jazz, 7625/Santa Fe, and 7654/Lagoon) aren’t self-striping; they’re variegated.
These days, though, you have lots and lots of other choices in gradient, self-striping yarns: Wolle’s Yarn Creations, Caron Cakes, Bernat Pop, Lion Brand Shawl in a Ball, Lion Brand Mandala, Premier Sweet Roll, Knit Picks Chroma, lots of choices from Noro, and many more. Adjust your hook to match the tension and drape you like for the yarn and only work the number of rows you need for the size you want. It couldn’t get any easier. Use different fibers and colors for different seasons. This is your chance to use those gorgeous yarns that have been trending.
