Can you tell that I am ready for spring? This is one of Elizabeth White’s amazing designs. It was originally available in a traditionally-published book but she has now graciously made it available to you for free on her website.
This project is stitched in size 10 cotton. You first make a lacy ring and then you make the embellishments. Elizabeth has provided patterns for all the pieces, which include a posy, rose, daffodil and a butterfly. I wouldn’t really hesitate to use any other flower patterns you may enjoy, if you want. You certainly don’t have to stick to these only.
This is called a candle mat because you could put a candle in the center. I want you to think outside the box, though. You can put this around a lamp, a decorative bowl filled with candy or a bowl at the foyer where you put your keys and such. It would make a treeskirt for an Easter egg tree. I wonder if there would be some way to attach it to a wreath. Use your imagination and the sky’s the limit!
