Here is a unique and beautiful scarf from Elaine Phillips perfect for your gift-giving list this year. Elaine has created this scarf starting with a full circle, then building on that circle with semi-circles. For symmetry, you will make the sides separately and then seam them at the back neck.
Elaine has used Kauni 8/2 Effektgarn which is readily available at finer yarn stores and online. There is a link on her site in the materials section of the pattern. She’s used a fingering/sport weight yarn with long gradients and self-striping. It is available in hanks of 660 yards or 440 yards. You’ll need either the larger hank or two of the smaller. Or, if you are unable to find this brand, you’ll need about 660 yards of fingering or sport.
If you don’t want to use wool, that’s absolutely okay. I still recommend that you stick to fibers that will block out nicely, though.
Elaine has provided both written instruction as well as a crochet chart.
