The elegant A Knight Out Cowl has the look of medieval chainmail fabric, sparkly metal mesh. The extra bling makes this cowl perfect for wearing on special occasions and holidays.

My Crochet Pattern Notes
This is a really easy crochet design, worked in slip stitched rounds. While the pattern is about as easy as they get, it’s really the carrying of the glitter/sequins yarn that is the more challenging bit. It can snag easily and forces you to work at a slightly slower speed. But, overall, it’s certainly worth it.
The metal strand that’s held throughout makes this project very sparkly. Unfortunately, we couldn’t get that to come through in photography. You can see it a little with the sequins, but there is definitely more bling than you see here.
And, yes, I did think this piece would be gorgeous as a top and it would even just about fit me, as is. But, I didn’t want to include a full multi-size garment in a make along like this, meant to be more like gifts you could make for the holidays. I may consider it later, though. It would be such a nice piece for a special occasion.

Finished Size

Yarn
King Cole “Linendale DK” yarn, size 3 weight, 57% cotton/30% viscose/13% linen, 131 yds/120m, 1.76 oz/50g ball, 5 balls or 655 yards in color Storm.
King Cole “Cosmos” yarn, 76% Glitter Yarn, 24% Payette (this is the sequins), 429 yds/393m, 2 balls of color Starburst. (See Yarn Note below.)

At the time of writing this pattern, “Linendale DK”, a DK weight yarn, is available in 14 solid shades.
I was able to find it at Wool Warehouse. Wool Warehouse is located in the UK. I live in the US and shop from them frequently.
The King Cole “Cosmos” is also available at Wool Warehouse.
Yarn Note: I was going to a specific height of this cowl in order to drape over the head easily. To reach the height I wanted, I ended up opening and using very little of both the fifth ball of Linendale and the second ball of Cosmos. You could easily make a beautiful cowl with only 1 ball of Cosmos and 4 balls of Linendale by simply stopping when you run out. It was so close to the end, maybe 1 or 2 inches more. If you want to omit the Cosmos altogether, you’ll have a project without the sparkle, but still perfectly beautiful.
Other Materials
Suggested Crochet Hook Size I-9 (5.5mm) or hook needed to meet gauge.
Yarn Needle for weaving ends.
Gauge
Working in stitch pattern, 16 sts for 15 rounds measures approximately 4″ x 4″.
Working at a different tension may require additional materials.

Other Abbreviations
This crochet pattern is written in US crochet terminology.
ch=chain; rep=repeat; sc=single crochet; sk=skip; sl=slip; st(s)-stitch(es).

Free Crochet Pattern Instructions
Notes: This pattern uses both recommended yarns held together as one. The first round is made in single crochet or can be made in foundation single crochet instead, if you prefer. The entire piece is made in back loop single crochet slip stitched rounds. The “back loop” of the single crochet is the one furthest away from you. If you want to avoid the “join line”, you could work in a spiral without joining.
Round 1: With both yarns held together, ch 136, sc in second ch from hook and in each remaining ch across, without twisting the row of sts, sl st to back loop of first sc: 135 sc. With yarn needle, join initial strand of yarn to the bottom of first sc.
Round 2: Ch 1, working in back loops only, sc in first and each remaining sc around, sk sl st and sk beginning ch 1, sl st to back loop of first sc: 135 sc.
Rounds 3-57: Rep round 2.
Round 58: Ch 1, working in back loops only, sc in first and remaining sc around, sl st to first sc, fasten off.
Finishing
With yarn needle, weave in all ends securely.
