Lion Brand Mandala yarn is a terrific self-striping that’s fun to use and it makes beautiful, memorable projects.

About 10-12 years ago, striped blankets with lots of different colors became popular. Many of us used an online Random Stripes Generator to come up with fun color stripes. Then, the Weatherghans became popular. The colors weren’t as random but they were still sort of planned.
Then, we started seeing these new self-striping yarns, not the variegated we had always known, but LONG striping. There were several brands that started making them but Lion Brand Mandala was easily my favorite because of the size 3 DK weight, my favorite yarn weight.
Mandala Yarn Variations
We started out with Lion Brand Mandala, but due to its popularity, there were lots more variations added to the line. Mandala Ombre and Mandala Baby are a couple of designer favorites. Mandala Sparkle has a little shiny bit throughout it. The newest is Mandala String, which is a fingering weight. I look forward to trying it.
Favorite Colors
I recently asked my Make It Crochet Facebook Group the name of their favorite colorways in Mandala. Our members like Mermaid, Warlock, Spirit, Balance, Orion and Serene.
I think Nifflers in my Mandala Waves Baby Blanket is my favorite, but I’m torn with a couple of others, Gnome and Groot, for instance. But, there are 11 more new colors! I’m looking forward to seeing Andorian, Slimer and Mantis. The Bonus Bundles have even more colors.
What Projects Are Made With Mandala
By far, blankets are the most widely made by designers projects in Mandala yarn. Next up are scarves and shawls, with triangle shawls being a big favorite. I was able to find a few clothing pieces and even a couple of stuffies. Hats are still popular, but it’s more difficult to make them show all the colors because of it being so small.
