My Crochet Pattern Notes

Although this is a 4-row repeat, there are several stitches in use. The constant increasing and decreasing require more concentration than stitch patterns in a simple row-by-row. The stitches are easy, but you will definitely need to pay attention so I’ve given this design an Intermediate skill level.

This crochet baby blanket is made in Lion Brand Mandala Yarn. This yarn is a gradient, self-striping yarn, meaning that the color changes are formed from the yarn itself.

Other than making sure that the striping matches from cake-to-cake, there is no other cutting off for each color. The colors flow straight out of the cake.

The design starts at the bottom and increases in repeats of four rows throughout.

How to Keep Color Sequence with Mandala

When working with Mandala yarn, I find that the color sequence is close, but not spot on for the 150-gram cake. Here’s my little trick to make sure that the sequence stays the same.

When you reach the end of the first cake, locate the color you need on the second cake. Grasp a big chunk out of the middle so that the color you need is located in the floppy loop of yarn remaining.

Cut off between the pieces and set aside the big chunk of yarn until later. Work from the inside of the loop until it’s gone. You should now be able to work from the inside of the big chunk you pulled out.

Other than this little trick to keep the sequence going, I made no other changes. The yarn flowed just as it came out of the cake.

Finished Size

Yarn Needle for weaving ends.

Gauge

Working in stitch pattern, 18 stitches for 12 rows measures approximately 4″ x 4″. It’s difficult to measure gauge in a design like this, but a general idea is that each full repeat measures approximately 6″ across.

Stitch Multiple

To change the width, make your initial chain any multiple of 26, then add 28.

  2. hello,
at the end of Row 5, after doing the repeated section, I am left with 12 stitches at the end instead of 6. I’ve reworked it several times, but keep ending up the same. any ideas? since it’s 6 more stitches & you do the repeated section 6 times, I’m guessing it’s something there. but I can’t figure out what.
