My Crochet Pattern Notes
This crochet square pattern is made, starting in the center and working in rounds. It is made in 3 colors, but could be made in any number of colors of your choice.
Moogly CAL 2023
Guess what? This is my first time contributing a square for the Moogly Crochet Along. This means that 24 of your favorite designers are contributing 12″ Crochet Blocks and Tamara is adding them to her crochet along blanket, throughout the year.
This is Block 3 of the Moogly CAL. You can view Tamara’s version with notes here. And, you can read about the rest of the crochet along here.
I’m so honored that Tamara invited me to her CAL and I had so much fun that I’m already planning more 12″ Crochet Blocks here at Make It Crochet. Putting all my creativity into a 12×12″ space proved to be a challenge that I enjoyed quite a bit.

Finished Size
12″ x 12″ square.
Yarn
Caron “One Pound”, 100% acrylic, 458g / 16 oz, 742m / 812 yds: used Lavender Blue (color A) 55 yds, Hosta (color B) 30 yds, Cream (color C) 30 yards.
“One Pound” is classified as a worsted/aran weight (size 4) yarn and is currently available in 46 shades.
Available at Yarnspirations. Yarnspirations is located in Canada. This yarn is also available at most of the standard craft yarns stores in the US.
Yarn Substitution
Since this is a simple crochet block, you can use whatever yarn you like. Change the hook size to match your yarn choice. I look forward to trying it with my favorite DK weight yarn as well.
The second square was made in Red Heart “With Love” yarn in colors Papaya (color A), Jadeite (color B) and Cornsilk (color C).
Other Materials
Suggested Crochet Hook Size J-10 (6mm) or hook needed to meet gauge.
Yarn Needle for weaving ends.
Gauge
This design is made for any weight yarn so gauge (tension) isn’t as important as it is to make the fabric you like.
Using different weights of yarns will require different yardages. To get closest to the 12″ crochet square shown, after round 4, the measurement across is about 4″ and after round 8, the measurement is about 7.5″.
Special Stitches
Cluster (cl): Yarn over, insert hook in space or stitch indicated, yarn over, pull loop through, yarn over, pull through 2 loops on hook, *yarn over, insert hook in same space or stitch, yarn over, pull loop through, yarn over, pull through 2 loops on hook, repeat from * once more, yarn over, pull through 4 loops on hook.
V-Stitch (v-st): [Dc, ch 2, dc] in stitch or space indicated.
Other Abbreviations
This crochet square pattern is written in US crochet terminology.
ch=chain; dc=double crochet; hdc=half double crochet; rep=repeat; sc=single crochet; sk=skip; sl=slip; sps=space(s); st(s)=stitch(es); tr=treble crochet.
All numbers after the colon at the end of an instruction are stitch counts. Use the stitch count to check your work.
